Mr DeLima is an all round legend and I doubt I would have attended bcc if it wasn't for him. I found the pastoral care to be lacking, and teachers generally insensitive to both physical and mental illness. Also, the religious education is out-dated and archaic... they teach blatantly untrue facts such as 'condoms do not work in stopping the spread of hiv/aids and do not stop you from getting pregnant' which is the most disgusting refute against science I have ever heard. Absolutely revolting tactics to shame teens into ignoring and suppressing their sexuality. Even after the Pope, the leader of the Catholic Church has said: 'we should not judge gay people', they preach about the sacredness of marriage between specifically only a man and a woman. Also teaches about the importance of 'virginity'- which is actually just a myth designed to shame women and control what they choose to do with their bodies. However, one of the very few redeeming traits of this institution is the teachers they hire, in particular Tracy Hogendoorn, Stephen Carley, Jeremy Obern, Melanie Ramos, Lisa Todesco, Michael Bryce and Teagan Doyle. These teachers are amazing people and care so much about their students. I am ashamed to say I attended BCC because I disagree with their obsession with image and appearance, and how much they try to shove students into their own pre-made moulds of what their view of a 'good' Christian is. As a Christian, I believe God made everyone they way they are for a reason and BCC is very inflexible when it comes to people's always varying beliefs on God. Overall, I was miserable in and out of classes at BCC due to their elitism and disrespect for students.
